Welcome to Australia 2009 – a commissioned project which followed a 3-month residency in Sydney, Australia. A collaboration with a group of artists to record a version of the song ‘America’ from West Side Story. The word ‘America’ was altered to ‘Australia’ in an attempt to reflect a contemporary commentary on the Western Suburbs of Sydney, which are now home to a diverse range of communities. Lyrics were added as subtitles to the video recording of the song for the work to be made accessible to a larger audience and further public involvement.
