On completing a short residency at the Bishopsgate Institute Collection – working alongside Interpretation Manager, Michelle Johansen, we co-created a workshop that would give others access to some of the materials we had been looking at, around issues of housing justice and activism and how it relates to migrant experiences.
This workshop gave a group of women access to housing pamphlets, squatter’s handbooks and tenant’s rights, presenting how communities defended their right to be housed.
Following conversations within the group generated by the materials, we created collages and drawings. The starting point of housing banners, which we can begin to imagine through the stories, words or actions discussed.

This project is part of a larger project commissioned by Counterpoints open call ‘to love, care, breathe as acts of justice’ and this research period is supported by an Arts Council England DYCP grant.
